Swiss Steel Group nominated for German Sustainability Award: Outstanding performance in reducing the CO2 footprint in steel production
Witten / Lucerne 05.09.2023 - Swiss Steel Group is nominated for the prestigious German Sustainability Award in Germany for its impressive efforts to reduce the CO2 footprint in steel production.
The nomination is based on the intensive efforts of the entire Swiss Steel Group to reduce the CO2 footprint in the emission areas Scope 1, Scope 2 and Scope 3.
The term Scope 1 2 3 emissions comes from the Greenhouse Gas Protocol (GHG Protocol), an important, internationally recognized standard for calculating greenhouse gas emissions. Scope 1 2 3 refers to different greenhouse gas emissions in the carbon footprint that arise from the activities of companies directly and in the value chain.
Swiss Steel Group is intensively committed to sustainability and environmental protection in the steel industry. At a time when global efforts to combat climate change are being stepped up, the company has developed Green Steel Climate +, a pioneering solution that shows that an ecologically exemplary approach can also be taken to the production of absolute quality steel.
"The nomination for the German Sustainability Award is a confirmation of all our efforts and activities for decarbonization in steel production. We feel that this nomination confirms our strategic goal of being not only market leader but also thought leader for Green Steel in Europe. We are honored to be among the nominees of this probably most prestigious environmental award in Europe" said Swiss Steel Group CEO Frank Koch. "Our product Green Steel Climate + is the result of intensive research and development as well as the consistent use of renewable energies and intelligent recycling," continues Frank Koch.
This product not only meets the high quality requirements of the industry, but also exceeds expectations in terms of environmental compatibility. With this product, Swiss Steel Group has succeeded, for example, in bringing the CO2 footprint per ton of Climate+ crude steel (Scopes 1+2) at our plants in Witten up to 94% below the global average for crude steel production.
The nomination for the German Sustainability Award underlines the importance of innovation and sustainability in the industry. Swiss Steel Group is sending a strong signal for the future of steel production by proving that high-quality steel and sustainability can go hand in hand.
The German Sustainability Award is presented and honored each year to organizations that make outstanding contributions to environmental protection and sustainable development. The nomination of the Swiss Steel Group is recognition of its leadership role in the industry and its commitment to a greener future.
